Look at various art forms that are part of our every day world.

what we wear (fashion)

what we live in and all it contains

(architecture, furnishings)

what we hear and see

on TV

at the theater

at an art gallery or stage

Look at examples of painting (historical themes)

sculpture (Statue of Liberty)

printmaking (money, clothing, wallpaper)

architecture (home, school, community)

drawing (comics, book illustrations)

crafts (pioneer baskets, pottery, quilts)

GOAL II: Personal Expression and Production/Performance: Communicating Through the Arts

Student Objective

Content/Suggested Activities

The student will experiment and practice using tools, materials and techniques to discover their possibilities.







The student will produce art forms based upon their personal environment or experiences.





Experiment with:

drawing media (pencil, crayon, use side, point)

painting media (brush, fingerpaint, tempera)

collage media (scissors, glue, paper)

three demensional media (clay, paper)



After experimentation:

use each of the above media to express ideas

about my home (ex. Van Gogh's bedroom)

family (portraits)

school, etc.

GOAL III: Arts Criticism: Responding to the Arts

Student Objective

Content/Suggested Activities

The student will develop and apply arts vocabulary when discussing arts forms.







The student will investigate ways artists get ideas (by the world around them).



Introduce the elements

describe types of lines (straight, curved)

identify basic geometric shapes

identify primary and secondary colors.

GOAL IV: Nature and Meaning of the Arts: Valuing the Arts

Student Objective

Content/Suggested Activities

The student will examine personal preferences related to the arts within a classroom or other setting.





The student will explain why people create art forms and why people choose to view or participate in them.



A Game can be played with a collection of art prints. (heart, money, hand, light bulb, house)





Draw and discuss "Why did you choose what you wore today?



"What would you use to decorate your room?"
