AREA OF STUDY I. NUTRITION Pre-K

Program Goal: Students will be knowledgeable about all aspects of nutrition and will be able to apply this information to daily living.

Program Objective: 1. The student will know how to solve problems, set goals and make decision in health-related situations.

Instructional Objectives:

The student will:

1.1 compare products of same food (e.g., canned, frozen, fresh peas) and predict what will happen when a food is cooked (e.g., raw egg/hard cooked egg);

1.2 use resource materials to explore the origins of foods (e.g.,orange/orange juice, milk/cow);

1.3 explore foods using the five senses.

 

Program Objective 2. The student will access evaluate and use nutrition knowledge, products, resources and services.

2.1 classify foods of animal and vegetable origin;

2.2 explore foods in a variety of forms (e.g., fresh apples, cooked apples, dried apples) using all five senses and choose which is liked the best;

2.4 look at and identify the food in the package from the picture on the package label.

Program Goal: Students will develop an understanding of the impact of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs on total wellness and will know ways to prevent abuse of these substances.

Program Objective 1. The student will obtain, interpret, and understand basic health information and services and be able to use the information in health enhancing ways.

Program Goal: Students will be knowledgeable of all types of injury and disease and will develop an understanding of ways to prevent and control injury and disease.

SAFETY

1.1 recognize trusted adult helpers and use adults to work through problems, set rules, etc.;

1.2 understand the need to use injury-preventing products (e.g., helmets, mittens, seat belts) and services (e.g.,., "I need help", "I'm lost");

1.3 demonstrate what he/she should do and say to protect him/herself when facing a potentially hazardous situation;

1.4 demonstrate and follow a variety of adult-taught classroom and highway safety directions and rules e.g., running in school, and school bus safety rules;

1.5 hear and comply with child protection rules and expectations set by responsible, caring adults (e.g., safety rules for school and playground).

 

FIRST AID

Program Goal: Students will formulate a basic understanding of stress and conflict and will establish techniques to manage stress and resolve conflicts.

1.1 make and follow simple conflict prevention decisions (e.g., take turns, share, select a different toy, etc.);

1.1 sustain physical activity for a given period of time;

1.2 choose to be active in unstructured play;

1.3 repeat an activity that gets more difficult each time (throw a ball harder, run a bit longer or farther);

1.4 run for a distance without stopping or falling

1.5 get up from a seated position to move across the gym or playground;

1.6 use jumping in physical activity (grasshopper game);

1.7 run (move) farther or faster;

1.8 jump as far as he/she can.

Program Goal: Students will execute fundamental manipulative locomotion, and non-locomotion skills.

Program Objective: 1. The student will know how to solve problems, set goals and make decisions.

Instructional Objectives:

The student will:

1.1 find solutions to movement questions using body parts; (can you hit it with foot, hand, head etc.)

1.2 compare body use to a simple machine;

1.3 improve static and dynamic balance skills; (static is control while still; dynamic is control while moving)

1.4 attempt a new locomotor skill; (such as hopping)

1.5 run with increasing speed;

1.6 bounce a ball repeatedly;

1.7 catch a ball from a partner;

1.8 throw a ball as far as possible.

PPO 1.9 The student will demonstrate static and dynamic balance (e.g. static balance - stand on one foot; dynamic balance - hopping forward without falling).
