Guided by our mission, the Foundation is eager to explore new frontiers and to promote more effective teaching in Ohio's primary and secondary secular schools. We support a wide variety of programs for students and teachers, from preschool through high school. Some preference is given to programs that target under-served student populations and districts with fewer available resources.

We are most interested in funding programmatic aspects of projects, rather than capital needs, such as technology equipment, furniture, or books. Thus, our Distribution Committee will give greater consideration to grant requests that show minimal expenditures for capital needs.

The “Breaking Down Barriers to Assistive Technology” Grant from Premier Assistive Technology, Inc. is an entire suite of assistive technology software awarded to school districts.  The software is helpful for students with difficulty in reading and writing as well as English as a Second Language learners.  The program was established in 2002 to help bridge the gap between education budgets and the need for educational organizations to deploy sufficient resources to serve the needs and requirements of special education programs.  We fully appreciate the significant budget pressures that all institutions experience and this grant program will help to act as a catalyst to solidify your special education / assistive technology programs.  Above all else, this program is meant to promote literacy EVERYWHERE in your organization, not just isolated groups or departments.  In this spirit, the lowest level of grant awarded is for an entire district. (Grants to individuals, single departments or "for profit" companies are not awarded).  This grant will give you the right to install the suite of software on EVERY PC IN YOUR ORGANIZATION.

Millions of computers are thrown away every year across the US. Good machines are hauled to the dump daily while thousands of people with disabilities, schools and nonprofit organizations are either struggling along using obsolete equipment or doing without computers entirely. It doesn't make sense to waste valuable resources when so many people and organizations are in need. This web site provides a way for donors and potential recipients to connect with each other no matter where they are in the country. Visit their computer donation database to locate donation seekers or equipment available in your state.

The purpose of the grants is to provide funds for classroom teachers who have innovative, meritorious ideas but lack the budget to bring them to life. The mission of the SHOPA Kids In Need Foundation is to recognize, promote, and support initiatives that foster educational excellence. Your project may qualify for funding if it makes creative use of common teaching aids, approaches the curriculum from an imaginative angle, or ties nontraditional concepts together for the purpose of illustrating commonalities. Innovation and merit account for 40% of the evaluation.
